Perched along a hillside with panoramic views over Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay, this major addition and remodel project for a large 1960's California Contemporary home addressed the clients' need for new office, entertainment, and recreational spaces.  The project is comprised of three new distinct components- a new split-level office and entertainment structure contiguous with the existing house, an infinity edge lap pool and terrace, and a freestanding pool house, which includes complete living quarters for guests.  These components are arranged axially along the slope, thus optimizing utilization of the large lot and the views.

The design respects the modern expression and horizontality of the existing house while creating rich experiential, functional, and site relationships.  Extensive use of cantilevered volumes create the impression of spaces "floating" above the slope.  The interstitial space between the existing house and the new addition serves as a reflective, transitional space featuring a reflecting pool or Japanese garden, providing views across the pool terrace and back towards the existing house.

The project was not realised as a result of the Silicon Valley .com collapse in 2001.
