Odense, Denmark

2009

The formal relationship between two sculptural entities, a bridge and its administration building, was an important design criteria for this invited competition.  The bridge fin geometry directly expresses the asymmetrical counterweighting required of its swinging function, and provides an iconic landmark in the open landscape.

The adjacent building houses bridge administration and maintenance functions, personnel facilities, and a control tower for ship traffic surveillance and bridge operation.  The structure is sited and articulated to evoke the dramatic angularity of the bridge fin, thus engaging it in aesthetic dialogue.
