Elevation Salon & Café

San Francisco

1999

This unique hair salon is located in San Francisco’s financial district, and is the city's largest street-level salon.  The design features a cylindrical café component serving as the focal point for the salon experience.  Together with uninterrupted mirror surfaces along the length of the styling bays, the café transforms the space into a theatrical event, where people watching and occasional celebrity sighting is enjoyed by both salon and café customers.

Recognizing the inherent beauty of the existing structure, the simple plan and minimal articulation of the design provides a calm, crisp, and decidedly modern environment, as well as a profound sense of “elevation”.

The austere, white space also functions wonderfully as a venue for parties as well as fashion and hair catwalk shows.
